Growing Up Poems
When I was young When I was young, I flew on the swings. I hung on the jungle gym And dangled from things. I twirled all around In my pretty pink dress. I played with crayons And made a big mess. I munched on sweet cookies Hidden in a small jar Up on the high cabinets Or in my moms car. I jumped on the bed While bopping my head To the melody I heard Sounding like a fluttering bird. I splashed in the rain And jumped in big puddles. I played with all the fantastic toys I liked anything that made noise. I used to have so much fun Sitting out in the sun Or swimming in the clear blue pool. But that was when I was a fool. After that I spent all my time Working hard in school. Now I have no time to play, There just aren’t enough hours in the day. I study all night No time to fly kites Dream of brave knights Or big city lights. As I got older, I miss the days Where I watched the trees sway And the little yellow bus That took me to school That all of my friends had thought was cool. The days of being my daddy’s little girl Flew right by And now I just sit in my room and sigh. Song When I look around me…all I see...is you... You’re always there for me in every way. When you’re gone…I miss you each day. When you’re here, I don’t care what's going on out there….I cant help but stare. As I look into your eyes. I forget all the lies u told me. Everything is perfect right now, how can I make it stay like this forever All I’ve ever wanted is for us to be together. I thought that we’d stay young forever Just seems like yesterday we met. Didn’t know what to do, Then there was you Come on over you make me feel right…come on over…I wanna be with you tonight When I see u right before me, I wanna be all that I can be Just An Actress If all the world’s a stage, I fell off and broke my heart, If we all just take on roles, I’m not meant to play the part. If our words are only lines, Then where’s reality? If we all just act as random parts, Is there true variety? If our clothing’s just costumes, Then my heart’s not on my sleeve, If no one really matters, Then there’s nothing to believe. If all is written down in script, I just forgot my line. When my thoughts belong to someone else, What is left as mine? Jessica C., 13 Grow My Lifetree, Grow Grow my Lifetree, grow Bring all the peace and happiness you show Grow in the wilderness, with other trees Growing without many needs Just the sun, the moon, the stars, the sky Come along, hold your branches high And tower above everyone else For hundreds of years, undisturbed until A logger comes and says, “This one’s good.” But he is scared; That’s understood! For you are hundreds of years old Trees that old are tough, he’s told They are right, for your branches are Huge! Enough to break a car But you would never hurt a thing Trees just like to stand in grass so green The logger sensed this, he ran off The desire to live can sure make you strong. Zoe B., Age 11, Idaho Icy Winter Days They flip and rumble, Acrobats without a care, White wisps of water vapor, Streaming strings of hot air. Like spirits and ghosts rising from the grave, Their white fluid forms Disappear. Save, One Long Ribbon That Winds Its Way From this warm Hot chocolate on this Icy winter day. May L. age 17 A Beautiful Girl A beautiful girl doesn’t pick favorites. A beautiful girl listens when you want to talk. A beautiful girl is there when you need her. She isn’t afraid to be herself, and she doesn’t force you to be like her. A beautiful girl keeps your secrets no matter what they are. A beautiful girl doesn’t care what others think about her; she knows who she is, and she’s proud of herself. She tries to do her best, and that’s what counts. A beautiful girl lifts you up instead of putting you down. A beautiful girl laughs, but not at you. Erin L., 13, Minnesota O Sister, My Sister! O sister! My sister! I don’t like you one bit, When you stand there and yell, you give everyone fits. You’re really mean, too loud you scream, When things do not go your way. You might not care but stand o’er there so people won’t hear you yelling. But sister, sister. When you stomp and hit, When you scream and shout, I don’t like you one bit. O sister! My sister! I love you a lot. You’re always a friend even when I’m not. You always share, and I know you care. You’re sweet and nice to me too. I know you love me, because you show me, It’s very simple to see. But sister, my sister! We both understand That for walking through life, We’ll go hand-in-hand. Tarah K., 14 Struggle for Success I’m shooting for the stars I’m aiming for the moon I’m soaring towards the highest mountain I know I’ll get there soon. I’m reaching out for help Towards a goal that’s mine I’m trying harder every day To reach the finish line. That brilliant light ahead My guardian please be Lead me to a place of pride A place of victory. Jessica S., Age 14, New York My Favorite JokesThree blond men are on one side of a river, and they don’t know how to get across. The first man prays to God to make him smart enough to figure out how to cross the river. So God turns him into a brown-haired man, and he swims across. The second man prays to God to make him even smarter than the first man. So God turns him into a darker-haired man, and he builds a boat and rows across. The third man prays to God to make him smartest of all. So God turns him into a woman, and she walks across the bridge. Girl #1 Why did the chicken cross the road? Girl #2 To get to the other side? Girl #1 No. Girl #2 Because she was lost? Girl #1 No. Girl #2 Because she wanted to? Girl #1 No. Girl #2 Then why did the chicken cross the road? Girl #1 She didn’t. She got half way across, changed her mind and came back! |
